Strangers 2 Will Be Heavy With Carpenter Influences

Strangers 2

In an interview with Dread Central, 47 Meters Down director Johannes Roberts commented on another one of his eagerly anticipated feature film projects, Strangers 2. Roberts revealed to the outlet that John Carpenter will be a major influence in the long-awaited sequel. He also assures fans that the follow up effort will fit well into the universe established in its predecessor.

I’m in week two of filming,” Roberts began. “It looks absolutely incredible. I love Bertino’s film, I think it’s an amazing movie and tonally this movie is going to fit very well into that universe. It has a real strong emotional heart, which the first one did, and it has a very cool retro feel to it, a lot of sort of references to… I mean, I always bring a lot of John Carpenter with me because that’s what I grew up on, but also maybe going back a bit earlier to the seventies movies, from Don’t Look Now to Duel, the Spielberg movie, even Christine a bit, the John Carpenter movie.”

Roberts went on to say, “All of these influences are finding their way into the movie, but I think it’s going to be a real fantastic movie. I’m super excited about it.”

Martin Henderson (The Ring), Christina Hendricks (The Neon Demon), Bailee Madison (Don’t be Afraid of the Dark), and Lewis Pullman (Aftermath) star. Hendricks, Madison, and Pullman will appear as a family on a cross country road trip who take refuge in a trailer park, only to find that they are being targeted by a trio of malevolent ‘strangers’.

As for who will be behind the creepy and iconic masks, we know that the titular villains will be recast from the original.

Bryan Bertino (who wrote and directed the 2008 original) and Ben Ketai penned the screenplay.
