New on Netflix

Horror films on Netflix - New on Netflix. Netflix logo for new to streaming movies.

New on Netflix is a weekly feature appearing every Friday, listing all of the new genre additions to everyone’s favorite streaming service. Normally, we’d tell you to kick back a few hours in Wicked Horror style, but this week you’d have to take that pretty literally because there’s only a few hours worth of content to sift through this time around.

Zombeavers (2014)

Everyone’s probably heard of it by now, the trailer made its rounds and even won some people over. If you’ve been holding off making the plunge, well, at least now you won’t have to pay for it. You know, outside your eight bucks a month. For those unfamiliar, Zombeavers is shockingly about a group of camping college kids being picked off by undead beavers. Still, it might be worth a watch just for curiosity’s sake, good taste be dammed.

The Box Trolls (2014)

It might not be horror, but it’s the only other thing you’re getting this week and at least it kind of counts. Box Trolls is an adorable stop motion family affair, even for people like me with an irrational fear of trolls. It’s a lot of fun, it has great sense of charm and humor, as well as a unique style. And that style ranges everywhere from the visuals to the pacing and tone. It’s a weird movie, but that’s not a bad thing. Even if it’s not outright horror, it’s worth a watch, especially for fans with families.

Still, I wouldn’t chalk this week up as a win for horror fans. New additions seem to be getting less and less. Considering we’ve lost Friday the 13th Part VII, Ichi the Killer, An American Haunting and Silent House this month, we’re in a bit of a rough patch. Here’s hoping it heats up as we head into summer.
