Zombie submitted 31 to the MPAA at least three times before escaping the dreaded NC-17 classification. But he eventually succeeded in securing an R-rating and doesn’t feel that he had to compromise his vision. The film will enjoy a limited theatrical release beginning September 16th, 2016. UK fans can catch it on VOD from September 23rd.

The flick also enjoyed a massive, one-night-only pre-release in Stateside theaters nationwide on September 1st.

In addition to Richard Brake, 31 also stars Lew Temple (Devil’s Rejects), Lawrence Hilton Jacobs (Otis), Sheri Moon Zombie (Lords of Salem), Malcolm McDowell (Clockwork Orange), Judy Geeson (Lords of Salem), Meg Foster (They Live), Daniel Roebuck  (Phantasm: Ravager), Michael “Redbone” Alcott (The Devil’s Rejects), Jeffrey Daniel Phillips (Lords of Salem), and more.

31 is set in 1975. The project zeroes in on five people kidnapped in the days leading up to Halloween. They are brought to a place called Murder World where they must fight for their survival by playing a deadly game called 31. To win, the ‘contestants’ must kill their opponents over a 12-hour period. Their adversaries are comprised of a group of sadistic killer clowns.

In the Wicked Horror review of the flick, out of Frightfest 2016, it was described as “relentlessly entertaining, brilliantly bloody, carnie carnage with a career-defining performance from Richard Brake at its heart”.
