The long-running and successful Resident Evil will end its era. According to director Paul W.S. Anderson its upcoming sixth installment will conclude the franchise; Resident Evil 6: The Final Chapter.
The Resident Evil movie series first launched in 2002, with a new installment of evil hitting cinemas every two or three years ever since. The five movies and gaming franchise have collectively grossed over $900 million at the global box office. With numbers like that, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sony try to continue the Resident Evil series, but for now, it appears that the final, final chapter is soon coming.
Even if the film series do stop after the 6th, the Resident Evil franchise is actually one of the most successful video game adaptations ever made. I don’t get the chance to play as many video games as I’d like nowadays, but back on PlayStation one, Resident Evil, was one of my favorite games to play in the dark.
As of last year, Sony’s plan was to release Resident Evil 6: The Final Chapter in September 2014 but that isn’t happening anymore, since the film hasn’t even entered production yet. Still, the good news is that the story line is currently in the works,
According to Director Anderson, they will be focusing on the adventure of Alice and her crew as they head towards the Hive where the evil queen is currently plotting her destruction of the human race. It has also been said that Anderson is considering writing the script with 3D in mind.
The battle continues and will be put to an end soon, but I can hardly wait for more.
Resident Evil 6 will also star Wentworth Miller (Prison Break), Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Retribution, Love Actually), and Bingbing Li (Resident Evil: Retribution and Transformers: Age of Extinction).
