The Maze Runner follows Thomas, a young man who turns up in a giant maze after undergoing a total memory wipe. Thomas quickly discovers that his only chance for escape is to work with the other young men he meets within the confines of the maze. The film is based on the Young Adult novel of the same name by James Dashner. The big screen adaptation is directed by Wes Ball with a script adapted by Grant Pierce Myers, T.S. Nowlin, and Noah Oppenheim. The film was originally slated for release in February 2014 but has been pushed back to September 19, 2014.
The Maze Runner is a blend of Sci-Fi and Fantasy with a high probability of horror overtones. The film marks Wes Ball’s feature film directorial debut. Ball had previously worked as an effects supervisor on a variety of other projects. Fox has already acquired the rights to the second book in the series and a sequel is currently in development. The Maze Runner is likely appeal to fans of The Hunger Games as it appears to be in a similar vein.
The James Dashner book on which the film is based has received mostly positive reviews. The feature film adaptation was shot over the course of eight weeks in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It will hit theaters on September 19, 2014.
