The Lord Of The Rings star Miranda Otto has just boarded David Sandberg’s upcoming Annabelle 2, the sequel to the mega-hit spinoff of The Conjuring.
Director Sandberg previously described the flick as the “Godfather II of creepy doll movies”. Little is known about the story-line thus far, but we do know itwon’t be a direct continuation of its predecessor.
The Hollywood Reporter noted Otto will be playing the titular dollmaker’s wife, a disfigured recluse who, 20 years after the tragic death of their little girl, welcomes a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home. Soon, however, the nun and the girls become the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.
James Wan and Peter Safran are producing the movie from a script by Gary Dauberman, who also penned the original. Made for a budget of $6.5 million, Annabelle went on to take in a grand total of $246 million.
Annabelle is a spinoff tale that builds upon the story of a possessed doll which was established in James Wan’s super hit The Conjuring, which spawned its own sequel, The Conjuring 2, and a slated spinoff to that film, The Nun.
Annabelle 2 is due for release on May 19th, 2017.
