Jason Statham Calls Meg a Cross Between Jaws and Jurassic Park

MEG - Oceanic Horror - Steve Alten - Nightstalkers

Action superstar Jason Statham recently appeared on the Jim & Sam Show. And he dished on the upcoming feature film adaptation of Steve Alten’s killer shark tale Meg. The actor had great things to say about the project and even compared it to a cross between Jaws and Jurassic Park.

“I just did a movie about a shark,” Statham said. “It’s a cross between, I’d say, Jaws and Jurassic Park. It turned out really good. I mean, apparently. We don’t know until we see it. It’s called Meg, as in megalodon.”

The film is slated to debut August 10, 2018. You’ll get to experience it in IMAX and 3-D upon release.

Here’s what we know about the project: At one point, Eli Roth was attached to helm the picture, but as we previously reported, National Treasure director Jon Turteltaub took over as Roth’s replacement. Turteltaub is directing from a script penned by Belle Avery and Dean Georgaris. Steve Alten’s novel (upon which the screenplay is based) tells the story of two men that band together to face a Megalodon, a creature thought to be long extinct, that surfaces in modern day and wreaks unspeakable havoc everywhere it goes.

After years of attempting to get this feature before cameras, it is finally on the way. Stay tuned to the site in the coming months for more on this upcoming project and the latest in horror news as additional details are announced!
